Quarter Drain Burn

Sugarcane Field

New Iberia, Louisiana

As an extension of the work in Sweden and Kansas,  I have also begun outreach with local sugarcane farmers in Louisiana to develop projects that continue the use of fire to maintain the agricultural fields through a series of burns that simultaneously increase the efficacy of yields while maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

The following images capture the collaborative work Quarter Drain Burn. The quarter drain measure in these field burns is a result of the irrigation that is carefully manipulated through subtle use of topography and the ability to graft onto existing water sources. The resulting quarter drain burn has a linear quality that continues my interest in line and measure in the landscape.
